Ikari Shinji
My god, he is just the cutest. I see a lot of myself in Shinji. But I also project Chris onto him. Sullen boy who listens to his music and tries to be helpful. Whenever I see artwork of Kaworu with Shinji as a small child, my heart feels all fuzzy.
When I first saw this scene during my initial watch of the series... Uhm. I may have replayed it a couple times. Shinji's adorableness aside, the awkward encounter in general is so good. Shinji gets all flustered because, "Whoa naked girl and I was just on top of her and I touched her breast and now she's getting dressed in front of me," meanwhile Rei does not care about or comprehend her physical vessel at all because she is a secret Angel clone of Shinji's mother.
Evangelion has a knack for creating the most uncomfortable scenes possible. End of Evangelion is full of them. What a delightfully dreadful series, too. The original Japanese dub has some of the greatest voice acting I've ever heard in animation. Shinji and Asuka's voice actors especially. They sure know how to scream in panic and agony.
