A Sunny Place

Ode to the Khaen

This found its way onto my YouTube recommended, and holy shit, I must gush about the legendary gift from the heavens known as the khaen. What a magical instrument. I would love to play one someday. I don't even know how those things work, but my god do they sound incredible. The section that starts at 10:49 is insane.

Here's a khaen cover I especially enjoy. This was posted on TikTok eons ago, or at least a very similar clip of the same song in the same place by the same person. So dreamy.

Separate thought: random excerpts float through my head a couple times each day. Driving along the countryside in grey weather while listening to "Julia" by Eurythmics is a great setting for all sorts of ideas. I thought more about the distance I place between my experience of the world and the way I describe it. My internal monologue is a near-constant stream of metacognition and commentary on whatever I'm doing. A line that crossed my mind was: "An inescapable preoccupation with the expanse of human life; never the 'what' and always the 'why.'"

My hands-free notepad idea from 2024 would be quite useful these days. I wonder if we'll ever get to a point in technology where we can translate our thoughts straight into writing or artwork or what have you. Of course, the processes of drawing and writing and music producing are half the value, but still... Useful.
